Happy New Year dolls!! This year I am vowing to do a lot more blogging so let’s see if she follows through 👹 And with that, here’s a couple of resurfaced stills from The 40 Year Old Virgin that I found in my screenshots folder that made me laugh for some reason.

HOUSEKEEPING OR SOMETHING:

Up until my early 20s I was obsessed with the Golden Globes and the Oscars, the red carpet looks, the commentary, the speechesssssssss (the worst and most cringe oscar win speech of all time and simply the most perfect and adoring one and the chicest clap i have ever seen)… but now

It is too awkward and bad and no one dresses themselves anymore and it’s just bOrInGgGggggggg. However! This GGs everyone I wanted to win kinda won this year so congrats to me lol

(still need to watch Oppenheimer tho oops, but it seems worthy of the award. Chris Nolan somehow has shockingly never won. the only time he accepted an award was on behalf of Heath Ledger and that is very sad and sweet etc (*if you watch that link* the fact that Tropic Thunder was nominated is fucking crazy lmao wow))

So I’ll wrap this up— I loved, loved Poor Things. What an INSANE and impeccable display of craftsmanship (*looking at greta gerwig’s equally impeccably cringe tidbit during their Barbie pointless box office achievement award win lol* see below) from the costumes, to the set design, the performances, the type design, the creative direction, the writing, all of it— really incredible feat and congrats to the entire team.

I took myself out on movie dates a lot during some much deserved work PTO that involved a matinee and a fancy lunch at some spots I’ve been dying to try like Monkey Bar (the kind of Old New York spot I love, established in 1936) in Midtown and Raf’s in LES— both were fab. Here are some of the pics I took in the theater as the credits rolled. Highly recommend you stay to watch those, they’re just as beautiful and thoughtful as the film. Oh and a Monkey Bar bathroom selfie and my vesper martini and burger with a knife stuck in it at Monkey Bar.

My other solo movie date afternoon was to see The Iron Claw and I loved it. I basically sobbed my way through it and that’s cinema therapy baby! You just have to go to the movies, I will never stop screaming this from the rooftops. I went in blind to this one with zero expectation (a paige rule) and sincerely this movie had to be super hard to make and Sean Durkin pulled it off. Two champagne glass clinks for Sean! The acting was great and the boys were really fun to watch and now finally we can all respect Zac Efron. The Jeremy Allen White hype is a little “over it” vibes for me. I’ve been in the JAW hive since Shameless and yall are all just little too late for my taste 🤵🏾‍♀️. Lip 4evr / Justice for Lip.

And here’s the perfect penne I had at Raf’s :) I also took home a slice of that fig and pistachio tarte and an almond amaretti cookie 🧚🏾‍♀️

I watched Anatomy of a Fall over the weekend and 10/10 highly deserving of best original screenplay and best foreign language film (my runner up would be Past Lives, which i adored, but i still need to see Fallen Leaves 🤓). The kid in the movie gave one of the most heartbreaking and heartwarming performances I’ve seen all year and what’s her name acted her ass off this year, so two champagne glasses clinking for them!! If you can’t catch this one in the theater, it’s streaming for $4.99 on most platforms.

I also saw Ferrari this weekend, and, listen up— Penolope was snubbed this award season and so was Adam Driver’s lace front— they laid that shit PERFECT. Like lowkey he should just keep it, 🎶 chic c’est la vie c’est bon c’est bon 🎶 !! Every shot was gorgina and it’s the only Michael Mann movie I’ve had the attention span to follow 👩🏾‍💼 (i know i know i knowwwwww i know shut up i know). They’re just so too boy. However, fast cars are hot and so is Ferrari and I adore red in movies. There were a lot of beautiful shots of flowers too, but I couldn’t find any film stills of them so I guess you should just go see the movie! And you should probably see this one in a theater, I’m not sure it would be as fun on a tv with no surround sound or whatever.

Keith Mcnally’s flawless read of Maestro. I literally could not have said it better myself bc I did in fact say all of this, while yelling at the screen thoughout the entire movie lol 

• i thought Saltburn was lazy and pointless, albeit fun! i love barry 4evr. more d*ck in movies is a win to me so there’s that 🥂 !!

• The Holdovers was so sweeet :,) I love when my boys alex and pauly link. Sideways is famously a paige movie (← u kind of have to click on that) that I could quote all day— my favorite slow burn and my most beloved movie character :) I thought the movie was kinda perfectly great and the break-out actor Dominic Sessa was 10/10 for the role. It’s streaming for free on Peacock for all my Bravo girlies!

  

• the red capet looks are a moot point because no one is that exciting anymore, as i mentioned earlier, but i think Greta Lee and Fantasia Barrino’s looks were my favorites of the night and whoever jlaw is using now is doing great. she’s looking a lot chicer these days, but truly isn’t this so boring i can’t wait to move on 

  

  

• i thought Juno Temple should’ve won for the new season of Fargo (she’s incredible in it and I think the showrunners have finally refound their stride. it’s streaming on FX/hulu), but i don’t make the rules yada yada. also have you ever googled her?? her transformation is kinda wild (lol?) i think she may be a sleeper hit or maybe i’m just late or maybe it was the ted lasso of it all

okay now i’m feeling nerdy and bored by talking about the golden globes so i’m moving on 8)

…on to my latest obsession vintage ABERCROMBIE AND FITCH QUARTERLIES❗

More on the above in a second. One of my resolutions this year is to not buy a single piece of clothing or shoes for all of 2024 unless it’s extremely iconic and archival, but even then— not allowed. I have 2 stores worth of a wardrobe and I feel like I’m becoming apart of the problem lol so I’m cancelled. Time to purge. In fact, I’m selling a kinda rare Michael Harvey clay vase and a super rare metal anatomical horse poster on Noihsaf Bazaar rn. I guess they’re not clothes, but EVERYTHING MUST GO. With that said! I’ve put that energy into nesting in my new-ish apartment 🖼️🪑🛋️🚽. I’m focusing on buying art and getting rid of furniture and items that I’d bought for function rather than quality. Blah blah blah that has been going pretty well and has been really rewarding tbh! I’m a cancer afterall :) Less parties and more decorating and collecting for me lately. This life development has lent itself to me being able to dive back into my book and magazine collecting and baby we’re soooo back! I worked with my friend and incredibly talented artist and wood-worker Paris Hynes on a leaning display shelf for my collection and he went tf off. It’s just sooooo gorgeous and I stare at it all day while I drink my matchaaaa in the morning and my wineeeee at night hehe :)

So that leads me back to my latest obsession vintage ABERCROMBIE AND FITCH QUARTERLIES❗I mentioned that I’m working on a Phoebe Philo deep dive in my last post and I most certainly am, but tbh it’s a lot of work and I’m very busy and it will come when it will come. So! for now here are some images from my quickly growing A+F quarterlies collection as a teaser to my next post. It’s going to be a buck ass wild, highly interesting rambling on how I cannot believe these got made, how smart and beautifully made A+F’s garments used to be, how brands are so afraid of sex now, how Bruce Weber was a genius and perhaps violent and disgusting, and how gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay!! AF is, was, and always has been. anyway! THAT one is going to be so fun so stay tuned !

I just sincerely cannot believe they got away with any of this. It has also come to my attention that there’s a documentary on A+F that I haven’t seen, but whatever it’s my turn and I’m more interested in the content these quarterlies were able to produce for a beloved and popular brand, rather than the behind the scenes on this one 🧑🏾‍⚖️
